Darcee O'Hearn

Bio: Darcee O'Hearn lives in Rossland BC, with her husband and 3 adorable children. She was first inspired to write when her grade 11 teacher read her story in front of the class and remarked that she was a writer to be recognized. Since then, she has been published in magazines, books, and newspapers all over North America.

Receiving her Forest Technician diploma from BCIT in 2000, she then worked in Regional Parks, the Forest Industry, and now teaches what she learned to love, our forests and all the trees, shrubs, and pretty flowers that grow in it. While working in remote locations in the Queen Charlotte Islands and in Mackenzie B.C., she experienced many close encounters with nature such as being stalked by a pack of wolves and her most funniest story ever, being chased by a grizzly bear.

After a near fatal kayak accident, she lay paralyzed at the bottom of a waterfall, so of course after a two year recovery she felt compelled to cycle across Canada in order to raise money and awareness for Spinal Cord Research. Her life has never been boring, just ask her about the flying potatoes!

Awards:Darcee received the 2013 'Carver Award For Writing', presented by the Nelson and District Arts Council.
